|| NIGHT 029: MIDNIGHT
There is no chime to announce midnight, however as it grows closer the guests will find themselves drifting back to the safe room, driven by a compulsion they cannot ignore.
As the hour arrives, they will find themselves freezing in place.
The east-most door opens, though no one enters, and Shion clambers slowly to his feet, heading for the open portal. A cloaked figure kneels, gently picking the child up and brushing the chains from his legs.
The figure does not speak, but the child does not seem afraid. After a moment, the figure makes a beckoning motion and Nicholas joins them.
The door closes, and the figure with the two children vanishes.
Something screams in the halls, a desperate sound full of grief. The beast bellows as though in answer. Outside, Tyler and the glass dogs begin to howl at the sound of the beast. It is a chorus of fright, the pups crying.
There's a flurry of activity within the room, too quickly for anyone to follow.
Thin metal cuffs appear around their wrists, though they are not connected.
Calem collapses to the floor, hands curled beneath his body, and audibly whimpers. Don, too, doubles over, hugging his arms tightly over his body and curling into himself. He falls to his knees, with a look of unbridled terror and a low, almost animal, moan. The fear disappears after a few moments, however, leaving the man alone with his pain.
Thancred, Soubi, Janet and Aristeo will see a blur of something grey appear in front of them for a moment, and will not find themselves bound any further.
Ami may be surprised by a figure appearing directly behind her, a cool presence against her back, and will find that she is also not further bound. The figure murmurs something in her ear and vanishes before she can react.
Those in the room with see a strange, grease covered man appear behind Ben, his hand pressed solidly over the child’s eyes. He too whispers something for the child before he vanishes.
A light pulses through the room, and those who do not close their eyes will find themselves temporarily blinded. In its wake, Molly will be left unbound, the chains have vanished from her feet.
The light fades, and the house-guests will find that they can move again.
Something, somewhere in the house, has started to knock.
Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap.
The sound is unnerving, and distracting, and few will find that they are able to focus for long with the noise invading their senses.
At the Outside Door another cloaked figure has appeared, though little of their face can be seen. They knock, slowly and rhythmically, and smirk at those that walk by in the hallway.
They seem incapable of entering.
There is no sign of the other figure, or the two children.
The Zombies in the Plastic Hall have pushed themselves against the wall, hands pulled over their faces. They moan quietly, but do not move.
The beast in the hallways growls low before its cry rises in a sharp crescendo. For the first hour after midnight it acts in a rage, moving more quickly and steadily, slamming itself into doors as it goes. After that hour has passed it seems past whatever riled it, but it does not fully calm. Its wide jaws gape, impossibly white teeth gleaming in the darkness, its gargantuan body scraping across the floor. The thing is deeply unsettled and stalks around the first floor hallway with a more determined steadiness, often circling the den in slow, tireless strides.
Senja and the dog have vanished from the Empty Room, though Senja can no longer be found in the house, those willing to venture into Leaky Basement will find the dog. He has pushed himself into Estella’s arms, wiggling enough so that it seems almost like she has embraced him. He whines occasionally, but will not move from his chosen position.
