Day 028

|| THREAT DOWN
|| DAY 028: GENERAL

As the sun begins to rise, the servants will find themselves growing drowsy.

Regardless of whatever else they might have been occupied with, they will fall asleep within minutes. During this time, they will not dream.

Regardless of wherever else they might have been when they’d fallen asleep, they will awaken in their assigned beds in the castle’s Dormitories. They are dressed in their uniforms, freshly laundered and perfectly pressed, spotless all the way down to the soles of their boots. Their effects and belongings--things they had previously been carrying, clothes they had previously been wearing, and items of personal significance to them--await them in the trunk at the foot of their beds.

Those who have moved out of the castle, whose names had started to fade from their trunks, will find that the engraving on their nameplate has been restored. It looks as though it has always been there. It looks as though it belongs there. As though it should be there.

The Steward has recovered his axe and regained his composure. He stalks through the castle with what seems to be great purpose, on the lookout for any servants who appear to be slacking off in their assigned chores. He seems very eager to dole out punishments to anyone he judges to be unproductive or uncooperative.

The Cook is in a notably fouler mood than usual, making work in the Kitchen particularly unpleasant to those who have been assigned it.

A perpetually full pot of gruel sits on the hearth. Throughout the day, the servants are welcome to help themselves to as much of it as their stomachs desire.

Four Guards are stationed by the front doors in the Receiving Room. They will not allow anyone to pass, and any attempts to fight them will be swiftly disciplined with a trip to the Cells in the basement.

Another two Guards patrol the Guard Hallway, strictly forbidding access to the Barracks or the door that leads out to the stables and grounds.

In the North Passage, the door to the courtyard has simply vanished.

Somehow, five new rooms now occupy the space in the Basement Hallway that formerly contained the craft rooms.

Perhaps to some they will even be familiar.
