Noon 026

|| DAY 026: NOON
The chimes of midday come and go, seeming louder in the pervasive darkness, but the lack of sight stays the same.

Around the house, though, a soft clicking, padding and scampering can be heard -- as if an animal is struggling for purchase on wooden and stone floors. In carpeted areas, the padding is muted. More of a soft serious of thumps if anything.

Anyone who is brave enough to investigate the sound will feel brushing against their legs, and on reaching down will find their fingers make contact with soft fur.

On contact, their vision swims back into focus. As if a veil has been lifted from their eyes, shutters opened, their sight returns with full clarity and the guest will realise they are touching a small white rabbit.

In its mouth it carries the handle of a lantern, which it sets down carefully -- ruby-red eyes regarding them curiously.

A voice invades their mind, firm but kind, familiar to some.

Pad softly, delicate dreamers, for deliverance doggedly denies demons their due. Deepening darkness disorients, deconstructs, dredges dissonance, dictates to divide us despite discerning dirigent. Dissuade dubiety, gentle guest, endure -- for it is darkest before the dawn.

As soon as their hand draws back the darkness envelopes the guests again, inescapable, and the animal can be heard moving away with its lantern in tow. Attempts to capture it are futile, and any who try to gather it up without breaking contact will find it kicks free with incredible strength.
