Plot Sign Up!
At long last, the plot sign ups!
This is for a plot that will run from November 1st until November 15th, though participating characters may find an opportunity to end it earlier. Characters will also not necessarily be trapped in the plot for the entire night.
We cannot, however, promise that leaving will be pleasant for anyone involved.
Be aware that there are limited spaces, only one character per person, and we will be randomly selecting 15* characters for the plot, announcing them the next update (i.e. the 19th at 00:00EST). Also be aware that there is a chance your character will kill or be killed in this event, so consider that and potential implications when you sign up, given that they will be closely involved with other characters.
*this number may change if we feel like the plot needs a smaller size or can handle a larger size
And because this plot is fairly time sensitive and you will be working closely with other players, we'd prefer it if those who are selected for the plot can maintain an average of a couple of tags per day (because naturally some days will always be better than others).
Comments are screened but temporarily. Sign ups will be unscreened as soon as possible, once processed by a mod.
Nothing you need worry about.

You were not always tied to the supernatural as you are now. You used to be a normal woman, with a family and children and a relatively happy life. But times have always been difficult and your life troubling. Your children were threatened and abused, and you sought drastic measures to save them. You turned to magic, seeking to free yourself and them from your confines-- but it did not end well. Even if you meant well, the loss of your children has become a burden on your shoulders. You are free, able to fly freely now that you have been changed, but you are alone.
Unfortunately, the accident has become well known, and in the travel of the word paranoia has risen. You were able to save the little girl, Jendayi, from harm at the hands of anti-supernatural bigots, bringing her to the safety of Ava, but others you have not been able to help. You have become a speaker of the peace, hoping to prove that the supernatural are not all evil and that they do not deserve to be abused.
Hearing rumours of the monster kept in the princess' palace, you want to speak with her and see if reason can be met with. And you have heard of others, other zealots against magic, who are seeking the favour of the princess as well.

You have always had a certain gift for seeing the truth when no one else can, just like you sometimes know things that you can't know. But if you must have this gift, you have at least made use of it. You have made your own business in the town outside the palace, a sort of investigative service for people. Your work is self-sustaining, you can never make enough money off of psychic tricks to do anything more than keep yourself healthy. The reward money you gain goes to continuing your work. You live a modest life, then, only in the spotlight when you must help solve a rather dramatic case, and never given enough to improve your station.
But people have begun to whisper that maybe there was a mistake in one of your earlier cases, a man falsely convicted of a heinous crime. Though no one dares say how such a thing might have happened, you have your reputation to consider, don't you?
So using your many connections, you procure an invitation to this big party you hear of. Your senses tell you something might happen, or perhaps you can get some leads on where to go next. But either way, something has to happen.

You have been best friends with the princess since you were both very small, and the both of you have been inseparable ever since. You protected one another from any danger, especially you. The princess has never been as strong as you are, and she is so loved by everyone that sometimes they are even willing to hurt her.
You were the only one told the secret of this party, tonight, and its purpose. To announce the princess' betrothal to an upstanding young man so that she will become Queen. She wanted to tell you because she was worried that you would be upset if you had to wait and she did not want her friend to think she ever intended to leave you or let someone else come between you.
Now if only you knew who this man is.

Coming from a poor background, you have seen far too much of the worst of humanity; still, you have a good heart, even if it's tarnished a little, and you have been trying to do things for others down on their luck, even being willing to resort to occasionally dirty tactics if necessary. When Jendayi was brought to your doorstep you took her in, not wanting to see a child like her abused and hurt like you'd been in the past. You've been her guardian ever since.
You have known Murphy from when you were both children, and have helped each other out in the past; you were glad to hear that he’d managed to make it and get a family, and knew he was innocent when he was accused of murdering his son. While you're mistrustful of authorities and the military, you took a chance on the Princess' reputation for being a kind, pure-hearted woman. You lobbied for the Princess to hear him out, leading to invitations for you and Jendayi - and a break from prison for Murphy.
There may be others there who you suspect don't deserve the good graces of the princess, but your first priority will be to get past the military commander who has wronged you and your friend.

You've proven yourself good at banishings and finding various things plaguing people to hunt down, starting at a young age and acquiring a reputation as a skilled monster hunter and exorcist, as well as a few other feats of heroism on the side. Some of it was partly because you’re not entirely human, but dabbling in dark magic now and then is okay if it's for a good cause, right? A few people have caught on that there's something not right about you, but so far it hasn't gone past ugly rumours: fortunate in a land so divided on topics of the supernatural.
You had a chance meeting with the princess when you were younger, and something you'd been chasing had gotten on castle grounds and tried to attack her. Since then you’ve been a favourite of hers, with a long friendship kept secret due to the difference in status turning to a relationship. Her favour is a chance to have a life as a real person without need of the monstrous side of your heritage, which the princess is unaware of. Your invitation came from the Princess herself, to finally bring the relationship public in light of your history of good deeds.
Of course, lately you’ve been losing business and the rumours have been gaining in weight, owing to the work of a certain seer working as your rival in the town. Not only has she been taking over part of your livelihood but since she's come about there have been even more whisperings about you, as if maybe something about her has led to more people questioning where your skills came from. You only hope that you can prove yourself to the princess and anyone else who questions you or tries to get in the way of your best chance.

At a very young age, your family was struck by tragedy. Your origin lies in dark magic, some suspecting in fact that it was in part through some curses that you were born, not at all like a human girl. While your family was very loving and cared for you no matter your origin, those that hate dark magic without exception sought to take your family away from you. You made it away, in the end, though you have no certainty of what happened to your family, because of Lind, who came to your side as you were frightened. She was strange, and you identified her as some kind of kindred spirit immediately. You have wanted to see her again since then, to know that there is someone else born of magic like you are, but she quickly took you to Ava for protection.
Ava was damaged when you met her, abused and hurt, but you were able to slowly help her recover by offering her company. If she ever cared what you were, she did not show it. But now her heart hurts again for the false conviction of her friend, Murphy. You helped plead with the Princess to hear all of you out. And maybe you will meet Lind there once again.

You used to be a nice, loyal citizen of the country. A good, kind, hard worker in the palace. You were well favoured and liked, and there were rumours that you might even earn privileges, since the princess and you got along so well. But then something got into you, some terrible person got inside your head and convinced you that you needed to fight against your very own kingdom!
Now you work for the opposing side, the prince of which is a terrible, lying boy who only wants to hurt the princess to whom you used to be so loyal. You don't know the other rebels, if there even are any on your side. But you need to gather information about who the future king might be and how this information might be used. And quickly-- because someone powerful is onto you.

You are a horrid thing, a beast trapped in the palace a very long time ago by dark magics. No one at all wants you to be here now, but since no one in the kingdom would dare use such awful magic, no one will remove you either. So they have made you their plaything. They may do with you as they please, and so many of the people like to use you when they are very angry, since everyone knows that a monster does not care.
You are magically forbidden to harm the princess, of course, but sometimes when the magic is weak enough you might be able to hurt others. You're awful enough, after all.
You were brought to the party for entertainment, but perhaps you may just have an opportunity.

You were born into a noble military family, and so it was only ever natural that you would join the ranks as well. You were learning your role ever since you were a little child, learning to fight almost as soon as you knew what it meant to hold your ground. Since then you have been holding it for the country, fighting against all of the enemies of the kingdom when they point you there and you have gained rank and prestige in the meantime.
And growing up alongside you was Abraham, your brother in fate. But he was rewarded, and you were not. He was moved to cavalry, while you remained on the front lines. He became commander and you didn't even make his second. Now you even suspect that he might marry the princess. You think there has been special treat, and you seek to prove that someone wants him in charge, specifically. That's hardly fair.
You have found a promising young man, Alfred, who seems to be a prodigy of a soldier. He was not born into it, but you think that you can make the case, though only if his sister ceases to meddle and prevent you from achieving this goal. If he's accepted, and is as good as you believe, you'll be greatly rewarded. You may even inspire meritocratic reform. If not, well, you'll have to find other ways to get what you deserve, won't you?

You have always felt tied to your country, wanting to serve—and change—it for the better. Most of all, you want to help your people, giving them fairness and justice. Because, unfortunately, even if the princess is kind, that does not always mean that the rules are. But perhaps the princess—or whoever might have influence upon her—can listen to reason.
Pretty and popular, you had no trouble at all finding invitations to the party. You gave one to your brother, knowing he aspires to join the kingdom's military, despite your arguments that it is corrupt. You may be very angry with what he is doing, stopping so low!, but maybe he'll learn his lesson. In the meantime, you could use the company: the second invitation, of course, is for you. You'll get your justice one way or the other.

You grew up as an orphan, stealing to survive, occasionally working with Ava, the both of you relying upon one another when you had little in the way of options. You managed to make enough to get out of that life; you married and settled down with a son of your own and a humble but comfortable life. Then one day your son disappeared and was found drowned in the lake. A Seer and psychic known in the town for her crime-solving led the soldiery to you; you were falsely arrested for your son's murder and thrown in prison by the commander of the military on this woman's word. Your wife believed them that you were guilty; after all, the Seer had supernatural ability on her side.
You were given a bit of warning that someone had been interceding with the Princess herself on your behalf, a benefactor who knows you well, and the Princess had decided to give you a chance to be heard, but she wanted to get a look at you for herself and meet you - so you were invited to the party for a second chance.
Albeit one where the Seer and soldier who threw you in prison would also be present

If there is anyone in the kingdom who knows the dangers of black magic most personally it is you. You have been personally victimized and hurt by the dark arts time and time again, even driven out of your own homeland as a child when dark monsters brought your home to ruin. In spite of these tragedies you have sought to make things right. Instead of turning to bitterness you have sworn your personal mission to be to drive the darkness out of this new kingdom that you have come to reside in, swearing your loyalty upon it.
Effectively without any real place to call home, you work as a sort of militant for hire to fight against monsters and those that would do others harm. You are brought now to the princess' table to be honoured by her, but ultimately you fear that there are several who would use the dark arts there. Whether for good or ill, this cannot be tolerated if this place is to ever truly be your home.

Ever since a terrible, tragic accident when you were a little boy, and your family home in the woods was attacked, you have been seeking justice. Living as a huntsman, you have saved countless maidens from being led astray by terrible monsters in the woods. It has been enough that you've gained something of a reputation in the kingdom. But unfortunately sometimes you have to use dark magic to battle dark magic, don't you?
You know that there is a monster being kept in the palace, and you suspect that it is more dangerous than the poor people living there realize it is. And you aren't sure that you can condone their rumoured treatment of the monster. Or the fact that there is stirring of rumour that someone plans on using it in war against the neighbouring prince, something that could be very devastating if not prevented.

It has been a long-standing tradition that the royal family has been protected from harm by the grace of the divine. There have been many conflicts as a result of this system, but mostly because of the dark forces that have so often tried to find their way into the hearts and minds of the royal family. Between cursed monsters and those that claim loyalty while relying on dark magic, there is always danger for the family.
Unfortunately, you believe that the princess is being tricked by someone who intends to use something black to take over control. You of course don't want the poor and trusting princess to be deceived, but you do not want to frighten her either. You know there are several who may be tied to darkness here, and it will be your job to purify as necessary.

Ever since you were small, you wanted to save the world. You learned that that was a difficult job very quickly, but you at least start by protecting your countrymen and fighting for your nation. Unfortunately, the military is a birthright, with only the rare exceptions from outside of the nobility. And while you have impressed and befriended some of the soldiers, including Sephiroth, you are yet to gain audience with the commanders.
Your sister may be angry with you for wanting to join the military, which she claims is corrupt (and may even try to stop you), she still got you an invitation to accompany her to this big party. That way you could probably at least meet the commander in person. So you finally have your chance, and no one will be able to ruin it for you.

You have never been particularly interested in political affairs or any real involvement in the controversies of the nation. But of course, you don't always have your way either. Your close friend, Amelia, has drawn you continually closer to conspiracy though you sometimes see things that she does-- or can-- not. The supernatural is perhaps even more prominent than anyone has believed before, and you are beginning to worry that it might be only you who can see it. Can you involve your friends, if it would put them in so much danger?
Your migraines have grown worse as you have become more deeply involved in these dark circumstances, the magic perhaps growing in you as you become entangled. You don't know the exact cause but there may be no time or need to contemplate what affects this quest may have had upon you. You have to go to the princess to warn her and protect your friend. And you think that the forces of darkness may have wormed their way into the very court, and perhaps even those attending to her tonight may have been tainted.

The Letter
If Heaven and Hell may help us, then help us they shall.
I almost regret that I must deceive the Princess in my duty, but I serve a Higher Calling. In the crusade toward Justice there is only one path I might take: I must harness those powers available to us, whether they stand for good or for ill, to advance our cause. With the correct spellwork, a change might be made…
It is becoming quickly necessary that perhaps the military ought take a stronger role in the governance of the kingdom and its territories, otherwise such militarisation may never become accepted. It is for the good of the government that I would make this move, but sadly there are few methods through which this might be obtained. The princess' co-operation is a non-question, it will be persuaded one way or another. What shall be more difficult is convincing the public to accept this change. If someone were to command both military and royal might, however…
There are of course others who seek her favour who must be dealt with foremost. Distractions are the last thing that we need.
Brief, I know, but I must cut this short. Any further information would be a risk to being uncovered, after all.
Yours,
Abraham
