|| NIGHT 041: GENERAL
Outside, the wind is picking up. The waning crescent of the moon offers little light tonight and is on occasion obscured by clouds.
The Offering Tables from the previous night have returned, although the contents have changed; gone are the plates, and the tables are cracked and worn now, the signs exhorting “give to those in need” faded with letters only half-readable from wear. In their place are a few brittle wreaths of dried flowers, candles; the cups with the knives laying across them are placed in the center, although the cups now look chipped and dented. The tables can be found in the Parlor of the First House, the Plain Kitchen of the Second House, the Gentleman's Lounge of the Third House, the Picturesque Entry Hall of the Fourth House, and the Den of the Fifth House.
The Feral Deer are out again tonight and seem strangely disoriented by their surroundings. Something is wrong with their antlers; once symmetrical and sharp, they seem to have twisted in and around themselves, making the antlers heavy and bothersome for the animals to carry, which in turn makes their gait more careful and slow. One of the deer has a problem with its wings as well and appears unable to stretch them out fully and take flight.
Despite these issues, the deer remain as hostile as ever, and don’t take kindly to being approached.
Something is happening in the Ballroom.
The door is locked, preventing anyone from entering, but it is unmistakable nonetheless. A great, roaring sound fills the air in the immediate vicinity. Loud cracks, like ripples of thunder, disturb the air. An uncomfortably warm breeze stirs the dust on the furniture just outside the room. There is the undeniable feeling of something wrong surrounding the room.
It is only by climbing to the Loft Bedroom that anyone can see what is going on in the room below. Rose stands in the centre of the room, seeming to shake and seethe with rage, and faces an unnaturally calm Estella. They stand together for what seems like days, neither moving more than the barest amount. Rose is more animated-- stomping her feet and tearing at her hair-- but never moves more than a step toward or away from Estella. The two of them are in a deadlock, that much is certain.
They seem to be having a hushed conversation, but it is impossible to make out the words from the distance a houseguest must observe.
Lock sits on the ledge of the Loft Bedroom Balcony overlooking the Ballroom, his face is almost expressionless. A small, somewhat familiar looking stone floats in the air above his hand, twisting in slow revolutions with seemingly no power to hold it in place.
He watches the drama going on below, barely seeming to breathe. He seems to be waiting for something.
Also waiting just inside the door is a Black Dog. Someone has affixed a heavy golden collar around his neck, but his gaze remains serene as the drama unfolds.
The Basement is filled with a greenish grey mould that seems to move as the houseguests watch. It expands and contracts, as though it is a great beast that breathes and seethes and waits only an incautious step. Thick, viscous liquid drips down the walls, lingering in stagnant pools on the dirt floor. This fluid smells sharp and acrid, but is somehow soothing to those who linger for very long.
It is impossible to reach the hospital tonight. Touching the mould will result in burns on the hands, though surprisingly the pain fades quickly into a rather odd sensation of relaxation.
Touching the walls for long will result in the flesh slowly melting away, though the pain of the obviously grievous injury vanishes quickly.
In the Photographer’s Bedroom the Photographer’s Ghost has been joined by a pale, wane Rei. They are working together on several rolls of film, and neither seems inclined to respond to any attempts to gain their attention. Rei seems distinctly unwell, her skin almost translucent.
The books in the Blank Library are all bleeding ink … or at least it looks like ink at first. The black, sticky substance forces itself from the blank pages of the books, forming drops around the edges and slipping down the shelves onto the floor where it pools. It’s thick, slow-moving, and has an unpleasant, heavy odour that soon settles in the library as if it had always been there.
Touching this substance makes it stick to your skin and clothes. It stains and is nearly impossible to remove. Any guest who’s been stained will start to feel melancholy – moreso the more stains they have. It might even seem like a good idea to give into the lethargy that’s gripping them, to lie down in this inky tar and let it convince you that if there’s no point to anything else, there’s surely no point in breathing, either.
The Chapel in the Second House is overtaken by a hushed silence; the sound of chanting in an unfamiliar language can be heard if anyone stands still within it, while the scent of incense is almost overpowering. The smell filters throughout the rest of the rooms adjoining it, although it disperses in the courtyard and open hallway. The door to the Priest's Room is locked, with an occasional flicker of light from below the door.
The smoky, dusty air in the Orchard becomes steadily more manageable as the night progresses, helped by the wind outside. From the ash covered ground new saplings are sprouting, offering some tentative colour in the remains of the destruction the previous night. Though thin, the new young trees seem hardy and resilient, and grow taller throughout the night to stand about as tall as the guests.
In the Courtyard is a writhing, quivering mass of flesh. Closer inspection reveals it to be several Boneless tangled together, clawing and twisting their way over each other, leaving deep gouges in each other’s skin in their struggle to break free from one another. The occasional guttural moan makes its way up the staircase, but no matter how much they twist and turn and slice at each other, they remain locked into one seemingly singular being.
The sound of construction has overwhelmed the Fifth House the riotous noise making it impossible for those who linger for long to think. To make matters worse, the noise is not the only peril haunting the Fifth house tonight. Those who enter the Basement can hear the sound of something breathing in the corners, harsh, frightened breathes that never unveil themselves as a creature.
Walking through the halls of the Fifth House will soon result in the distinct sense that something walks just behind the houseguests, breathing their air, leaning into their space.
If they turn quickly enough, it always seems as though they might catch sight of the person standing just behind them. But there is never anything there.
The corpse in the Den is sitting up, posed on her knees, lifeless eyes staring straight ahead, through the wall that blocks her view.
The Not Child sits in the Abandoned Nursery clutching a doll in its arms. It rocks back and forth, gasping and giggling to itself. Anyone who enters this room will be attacked by the creature, but lingering in the hall will allow them to simply watch the creature.
Someone is pounding on the door to the Boarded Room and low cries of desperate terror can be heard very clearly heard. However it is impossible to get to whoever is trapped in the room.
The box for the dishwasher in the Bachelor’s Kitchen is rocking from side to side violently, water or some other fluid oozing out from the sides and puddling on the floor.
The Safe Rooms tonight are the Student Bedroom and the Seedy Bar.

We don't currently have any plans for an open for Rei or the Photographer's Ghost, but if you post something up I'd be more than willing to tag in. Otherwise, let me know what you might like to do-- we can hash it out on here or on plurk if you have any ideas for what he might do to try to get their attention, etc.
