Midnight 005

A little before midnight, the door to the Silver Bedroom goes quiet, as much of the ominous feeling from approaching it vanishes.  The noise is briefly replaced by a clamour as if some number of metal objects have been violently thrown at the wall before the room falls silent again.

As the thunderclap resounds through the house Tanny appears at the bottom of the stairs, running past the Merry Gentlemen with barely a glance to their twisted forms. One pauses with his teacup halfway to his lips, turning its head unnaturally to watch her progression with interested eyes, but it does not rise.

She pauses outside the door to the Silver Bedroom, hands twitching at her sides for a moment before they curl into fists. She does not reach for the door.

The Lord follows her more sedately, surrounded by his Eyeless Lads.

These creatures surround the pair, preventing anyone from coming close to them. They spends some moments studying the door before he wipes a tear from her cheek, lifts it to his lips and then walks back upstairs, his servants following behind him.

Tanny folds slowly to the floor, but makes not move to get closer to the door, staring at it as though it has taken something from her.

For the rest of the night, the door remains quiet, and anyone touching or approaching it will find it lacking the ill effects that come from contact with the other such doors.

Throughout the castle, dark spaces and shadowy corners show flickers of movement. Those within may catch glimpses as if the shadows themselves have gleaming eyes watching, although the creatures are quick to hide when looked at directly. The Shadows move in small swarms wherever the light is low or absent, occasionally reaching out to tug on bits of clothing as people pass; the Guards are subjected to similar treatment, although for now the creatures seem harmless.
