Midnight 045

|| THREAT DOWN
|| NIGHT 045: MIDNIGHT

As the Clock calls in the witching hour, the Aurora above the Houses seems to spark to life. The colours in the sky flash and flare—and from time to time bursts of static can be seen in between the stars, distortions that have no place in the constellations. It is still possible to see pieces of worlds beyond the sky, buildings and people reflected like a mirror. They seem closer now, as if the very visions might crash to the earth below.

For a moment, all houseguests will feel disoriented. They are lightheaded as something shifts in the world, a familiar slipping feeling though for many it has been a long time since they slid into the House. When they regain their senses and their footing, there are new people in the House. So many more than normal. Strangers, as confused and lost as they once were—except there is something distant there. Like at any moment they could just slip away.

The newcomers suddenly find themselves in a dreary house. There has clearly been some major flooding recently as the walls are still stained a strange brownish colour, the impression of drips and leaks still coming down the wallpaper. Looking around they will find that they are in a dining room, any dining room in any of the houses, the tables set immaculately with crisp tablecloths that sharply contrast the otherwise drab interior of the room. There are many elaborate dishes on these tables, the aroma enticing and rich, but the Servants tending to the set up are less inviting; though they smile very widely, the human gesture and human teeth look out of place in the face of a rabbit or a fox.

Leaving these rooms to wander the not-so-empty halls, the newcomers might find themselves confronted by familiar faces, people all clothed in the same strange white uniform. These can clearly not be friends or family members they seek. They must be tricks of the house. These strange people carry marks that none of the newcomers familiar to them can remember and for those that know of people who have been dead, it is inconceivable that they would find them here, like this.

For any who will not find anyone familiar, it just might be even eerier to see how unified yet hollowed out and stressed the people who dwell here seem. Something is clearly wrong.

Least of all because now, the newcomers are here, too. And despite a strange feeling of impermanence there doesn’t seem to be a way to leave.

Everyone, new and old, will find themselves holding a radio, perfectly functional. They do not remember picking them up or when they got there.

The strange wildlife seen throughout the houses takes a sudden turn for the more dangerous. In addition to the more innocuous out of place animals, guests may encounter various larger predators and outright monsters from various worlds. While non-sapient monsters from worlds represented in the house may be somewhat more common, creatures strange and unfamiliar to any of the guests may appear and disappear. These threats are at player option for occurence and what is encountered, so long as any monster encountered is capable of physically fitting within the space they're encountered in.

The Art Enthusiast in the Gallery shakes and shudders. He moans in pain for a long moment before first doubling over then sitting himself down on the floor. Seeming somewhat more intact now, he is a willing conversation partner though he is still prone to a certain level of spontaneous violence.

The Drowned Woman stares at the Lake blankly, watching the Hunters swim by. She seems fascinated enough that she is reluctant to attack though she is far from harmless.
