NIGHT 047

|| THREAT DOWN
|| NIGHT 047: GENERAL

Night is slow to arrive, the clocks calling in the hour lethargically. They take their time, but when the sixth hour chimes the change is abrupt. Darkness falls like someone has turned out a light, washing over the houses in a wave that the guests can almost feel consume them.

Neither moon nor stars are visible tonight. And the lights in the houses won't turn on, nor will the fires light. The only source of lighting left are the electronic devices that the guests carry which come back to life without ceremony. They flicker on occasion and might even turn off and then on, however, as if unable to handle the very darkness pressing in.

This wouldn't be such a problem were it not for the Shadows out in force tonight, monstrously hungry.

Competing with them are the Wallcrawlers; aggressively predatory tonight, they are quickly scaling the walls and ceilings in all hallways in search of prey, not bothered by lack of light they can't even see.

The Rats take pause as night falls; the mass that had gathered in the chapel pauses, as though watching for some unseen predators, then files out of the chapel, scattering to vanish into cracks in the walls.

Outside, borderline impossible to see in the dark, the Hunters are on the prowl. The sounds of their movements can be heard to keen observers, or the occasional ragged breath. They stay close to the houses tonight as if knowing there's easy dinner inside.

If they could get in. If the doors weren't locked.

Crying children can still be heard somewhere in the distance, louder and more frequent than before, as if they have increased in number.

Victoria becomes tense as the night arrives, huddling into herself. Her eyes dart around her like a prey animal, anticipating danger. She edges toward the nearest fireplace but doesn't seem quick to move.

In the Doll Bathroom, the Doll Queen stands stiffly, staring at the door; should a guest enter they'll find something impossibly dark and judgmental in her blank eyes.

There's a skittering, sliding noise throughout the First house during the night that does not seem to belong to a monster. Whatever these many small steps are, it's surely nothing dangerous. And whatever it is, it tries to stay silent.

All of the animal figurines have vanished from the display cases in the Formal Dining Room. A single crystal raven lies on the floor in pieces, trodden over and forgotten.

In the Tapestry Room, the spots of blood on the loom have expanded in size, as though the fabric itself is bleeding. Likewise, anyone who examines the floor in the Pottery Room closely enough will notice splattered blood mixed in with the clay.

Something has ravaged the Sewing Room. Baskets are overturned, and the floor is littered with unraveled spools of yarn and thread; the sewing machine lies against a wall, hopelessly smashed. The mannequins have dispersed from in front of the door and scattered around the room, seemingly in a panic. Their clothing is torn and shredded, and several of them are missing arms and legs. In their frenzied state, they will swarm to attack anyone who enters the room.

The body in the Leaky Basement has awoken. She shudders and shakes on the muddy floor, looking about her in a daze. She doesn't seem frightened by the events of the night, but certainly confused. It won't be long until she leaves and looks for living company.

In the Chapel, the desecration of the day has not gone unnoticed. The twisted "offering" has been lit aflame, although the rotted meat seems to be resisting burning, twisting and thrashing as the carrion insects that had inhabited it swarm away across the floors in panic. The Priest is unmistakably not his human self, his eyes a blaze of light with his silvered sword engulfed in flickering flames.

The dead "congregation" has risen, a mass of the walking dead filling the room; while most of them towards the center are engaged in a stalemated swarm-battle with the priest, those around the edges will attack anything that comes within reach. The priest himself is no solace either, lashing out with inhuman strength and speed against anything approaching within range. The pieces of the undead he carves through burn to ash as they hit the floor, but their ranks are continually replenished by a shambling procession coming up from the Catacombs; the reinforcements will ignore anyone passing through the back hallway or Catacombs until they enter the chapel itself.

The front doors of all five houses remain locked.

The growling from the basements intensifies. It seems as though something is coming.
