DAY 016

|| THREAT DOWN
|| DAY 016: GENERAL

|| CASTLE

The air of the Castle is tense and broody, many of the torches have gone out during the night.

After a lengthy absence, the Steward has finally returned. He seems to be in a fouler mood than usual as he patrols the castle—and for this reason, perhaps, he is unusually, single-mindedly preoccupied with making sure the servants are completing their assigned chores. Anyone caught slacking off will be physically reprimanded and dragged off to work; those who argue or resist will receive punishments that are rather more severe.

The Steward’s Quarters, despite having been at some point thoroughly cleaned out, are back to their usual filthy state.

The eyeless, black-bleeding creature that spent the night haunting the basement shambles up the stairs as the sun rises. It continues until it reaches the stairs to the third floor, where a pair of guards bar the creature's way. It attempts to force its way through, but after a short confrontation, the two guards have it restrained, keeping it there.

The Heart Eater sits on the Throne in the throne room, staring off in the distance without seeming to see. The Jester sits at her feet, repairing a lute. His hands work quickly, tightening strings and repairing pins. He hums softly to himself as he tunes the instrument.

The remaining Grey Maids flutter about the Women's Quarters, all clearly terrified. They pace, they sit and talk quietly with each other, but they do not leave the rooms.

The music box in the Music Box Bedroom has started to play a lively and upbeat waltz. It would likely sound pleasant if not for its poor quality, continually punctuated by sharp metallic clicking and the creaking of gears. The music plays at a painfully inconsistent tempo, speeding up and slowing down at seemingly random intervals—however, it never stops. It is unfortunately loud; it rings throughout the second floor and can be heard around the area of the Kitchen and the Common Room on the first floor.

A lone Grey Maid can occasionally be found in the room, humming along with the music as she dusts. In contrast to the other maids, she carries herself with a strangely calm air.

|| GARDENS AND YARD

The courtyard is covered is snow and blood, the corpses have been stacked together and burn, leaking dark, horrible smoke. A singe, white winged crow circles in the air, uttering lonely caws as it does so.

The Female prisoner is sitting at the edge of the hedge, staring into the courtyard, her cloak drawn tight around her shoulders, her lips are pale, bloodless, and her eyes seep a dark liquid that looks a great deal like blood. She rocks on her feet, hands clutched at her stomach.

The Gryphon riders switch out with their brothers on the walls, and those that have returned from the task spend much time tending to and feeding their birds. Great haunches of beef hang on the bottom floor, and the riders are quick to carve from it, bringing buckets to their birds.

The two small Gryphons follow the riders with little, uncertain cries, tumbling around their ankles and begging for scraps. Their antics are treated with a great deal of fondness, and most of the workers will stop to play with them.

The Hunter that’s been tied up in the Stables is nowhere to be found.

The Garden remains active, thorned vines guarding the entrances. The will o wisps patrol through it, and the Green Man seems to be paying special attention to any entrance. Servants can move freely and will find that there is edible fruit and vegetables growing in sheltered glens, along with an occasional rabbit speared on a thorn offered.

The two Former Lads are in the garden, tolerated by the plants, although a will o wisp follows each of them with occasional almost suspicious-seeming pulses of light and sparks. They do not seem much less disoriented now than they were the previous night, and they both are handling the increasingly active garden with wary unease.

|| THE TOWN

Tanny does not return as dawn arrives. But no one looks alarmed by this fact.

Rose does, leaving her swords learned against her bed and collapsing onto her bed, clearly exhausted. She does not attempt to go into the basement, and two Guards set up shop right outside the doors.

The Snow is now falling heavily on the town, pilling up on the ruins of the carts. What has been salvaged of their wares and other items has been moved to the Apothecary. While little of value remains, much of their food and personal possessions were salvaged. Injuries have been tended, and the Tea Woman seems to be nominally in charge of the fifteen men and women.

From them, five young children have been taken, and the parents look increasingly distressed as the time goes on. One of the women had hidden a baby in her robe, and nurses her youngest child as though to soothe herself, ears pressed flat to her head.

Kora is working quickly in the Cheese Shop, she jumps a little at every jangle of the bell, tensing and shifting on her feet. Still, she has managed to make a pleasantly spiced cider that she is serving hot through the day. She has also made a thick, wild mushroom soup which she sells for a few coppers as a bowl.

She keeps her daughter hidden out of sight in the basement, aprons and cloths draped over her belly to hide the bulge. .

What little bits of produce she had not finished pickling, drying or preserving she is quickly jarring and braiding to keep it out of her way.

The Knife Sellers managed to save most of their wares and their tool kits, and have been joined by the young Blacksmith who sits on the floor with them chatting softly. They seem to be working out some sort of arrangement.

The four bullmen who were left within the town have been chained, and are clearly displeased with it.

The Frogman and his dog sit quietly with the travelers, for the most part his wares were untouched, and the fish and sea plants are being sorted carefully.

Luce would be attached to Asch for a little while, before remembering he had a self-imposed mission and would at least give the castle areas on good look-over to find the Portner Ghost per what he could figure out from the Tea Lady earlier.

So, when he sees The Heart Eater he has to approach. He is scared of course, a lot of scary things happened, but he has the Graveminder Book and wants to help.

Mukuro, Murtagh (?), Kaito

[personal profile] whiteofcrime 2017-02-04 01:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Mukuro will be taking stock of the aftermath of the Lord's crackdown. I'd like to have him talk to the caravan people who had their children taken from them because I think that would concern him. If anyone wants to support him doing Good Things, let me know.

Murtagh's status is pending for now. Will be updated.

Kaito is going to return to being a busy bee (sorry mods). He'll be trying to free the bullmen (see below for rolls), chatting to the two ex-lads, trying to meet the Jester and the white crow outside...

He will also be starting to work on his new Toy Maker apprentice duties by learning the craft plus trying to establish some games from back home (chess, go, potentially a native form of shogi using the Storm Lords etc. as pieces). You might find him carving in town.

Hibari

[personal profile] solitarynuvola 2017-02-05 09:37 am (UTC)(link)
Hibari will be helping the night market folks keep warm, with heated blankets and heatrocks. He'll also be looking to break the Bullmen out of their chains and doing some odd jobs around town, shovelling snow and the like, then heading to the bakery to start work.

Anyone's free to run into him at some point!

Rei will be going back to the castle for cleaning and to try and find the missing children with Mukuro.

But she will be free other then that, and likely to be found in town!
